Hello again friends of the band Body
21 years ago today we lost a very special friend and band member Ronny Nelson.
Ronny played Bass Guitar,keyboards, (sometimes both simultaneously ) vocalist and songwriter,a talented musician who was a founder member of “the band Body”along with Tony and myself.
Ronny was cool,looked like a rockstar,loved Jimi Hendrix and had hair just like him.
he had a dry sense of humour,always interesting and engaging,could pull the most amazing yoga facial expressions,loved cricket,astronomy and Everton FC
Growing up the 3 of us would spend so much time together,going out watching bands at gigs and festivals,hanging out in music shops looking at equipment we couldn’t afford…🎸🥁🎹🎤 and spending endless hours in a freezing basement learning to play our instruments.
Those days were innocent times ,we didn’t have much money,but loved creating in our musical bubble.
In the beginning being young and naive was a blessing…I think it actually helped us survive our Spinal Tap moments,if we had known the pitfalls that lied ahead we might never have left the country 🤣especially the risk we were taking touring around Europe and Asia in our very old Body bus 🫣
One Hair raising story from 1983
We were in Turkey on our way to Ankara driving across the Taurus mountains.It was night time,Ronny was driving when the battery suddenly died on the bus…😧
we could not stop or pull over because we were on a single track mountain road,no hard shoulder,a sheer drop one side and a mountain cliff face on the other side….we had no headlights or brake lights with the possibility of oncoming lorries crashing in to us 😱
Our cunning plan to solve this problem was for me to hang out of the window with a torch 🔦 🫣crazy but true we slowly navigated our way down the mountain,it was a scary experience but we made it to safe ground just as the sun began to rise,☀️
Jumping out of the bus we hugged each other…laughing and shouting “F*****G Hell …Were Alive”..🙏…..unforgettable memory, just one of many from a very eventful 3 month tour 😄
Its always good looking back and remembering the good times
RIP old friend,taken to soon,your sadly missed 🙏
